Wishlist > Importing Tasks from Basecamp
Hi Taras,
We have a LiquidPlanner API now, so in theory you could create a tool to do that if you're a developer.
We've thought about Basecamp import support but never something that connects the two dynamically. I'd like to understand the use case better. Do LP Project Portals look like a solution for you instead of BC?
Charles.
Hello Charles,
Thank you for getting back to me.
LP Project Portals gives my clients access to LP tasks, that's not what I need. I need to be able to interact with my client's tasks( in basecamp ) and track them inside of my LP.
Here is my business arrangement
End Client - Basecamp - My Client - Me - LP - My Developers
Basecamp is used by my clients to interact with their clients.
LP, I use to manage my development team.
In Ideal world, My clients would be using LP(I suggested this to them) but that's not the case at the moment.
So I need a way to manage the tasks that exist both in Basecamp and LP. Right now, I'm just using "Ref' field, it's a start, but much more is possible.
Right now, you have an option to add Multile Tasks. It would great to add an option called 'Add Tasks from Basecamp'(or Add Tasks from 3rd Party) When this option is clicked, then a screen comes up that allows you to select a Basecamp project and a task list to import from. New items are created in LP, existing items are ignored.
Then we'd need an update function to update tickets that are imported from Basecamp.
Does this help to understand the use case?
I think the opportunity here for LP is that it would make it very easy for BC users to migrate to LP. In my opinion BC has 1 advantage over LP, which is that BC's project portals are prettier. This is important to Design Agencies, who are my clients.
If LP had a away to customize the portal CSS/HTML then I think you would capture a lot of BC clients. But I realize that all of this will take time.
Thanks for considering my suggestion,
Taras

We work with Marketing Agencies who use Basecamp to communicate with their clients.
The Agencies create todo lists in Basecamp that they would like us to address.
It would be FANTASTIC to be able to import lists of items from Basecamp using the Basecamp API.
And it would be very more FANTASTIC if LiquidPlanner kept track of the items that were imported and allowed to draw comments from Basecamp into LiquidPlanner. This could be triggered manually.
What do you think?
