Wish List Forum > Differentiate between users with same name

I have workspace members from two different companies who share the same username. It would be nice to have some way to differentiate between them in lists where only the username is shown (portal guest list for instance). Either displaying their full name, or e-mail address or company name. I'm also wondering what would happen to a message directed to one of them. Would they both get it?

Hi Darren, that sounds like a good idea.

Now who it would match is another good question. If there are two people with the same name, it may match either, but only one of them. The simplest solution for now would probably be to ask one or the other to make their name more unique ie: "Adam" could become "Adam S", then you can do "@adam s" and you should get the right person.

Just adding a +1 since I ran into exactly the same problem just now. We started out all using just first names (keeps that name column short). But now we have two Daves. Luckily, one of them likes to go by his last name, so I don't think he'll mind if I ask him to use that.

I was going to assign him (the last name guy) some tasks, but I'm afraid they will go to the wrong Dave!

Oh man. I am up late reassigning some tasks, and I can't tell which Dave is which. I tried temporarily removing one of my Daves from the client portal, but they both still show everywhere there is a list of users. So I can't tell which is which when I reassign a task.

I tried going by position in the list, but I found that some places the two Daves are sorted differently from others. It looks like the right-click-reassign menu has them in one order, and the user list in the task edit panel in another.

I can't email people at 10 at night and expect them to change their usernames for me right now! :-)

We really need a way to let the project manager assign nicknames to the different users, or at least the option of displaying the user's full name instead of username wherever a username is shown now.

Thanks!

Hi Michael,
I have a few solutions for you in mind. I'll talk to the other developers tomorrow morning, and then try to get a fix in shortly.

You may not be able to send an email at 10pm, but sadly I appear to be around to answer forum posts. I should get some sleep so I can clear this up for you ;)

Any solution for this? A new portal user "Eric" now makes our other "Eric" indistinguishable. Could we at least see a full name, or e-mail address, or something?

Please provide the workspace owner with the ability to change each workspace member's username. I think it would be a decent workaround for this situation plus, we would like to adhere to a standard username nomenclature and many times when workspace members are enrolling, they don't seem to understand the impact within LP of the username they are picking.

This is request is currently a high priority item on the LP 3.0 wishlist which means at has at least a 50/50 chance of getting in the next release. We're also looking at putting the email name next to the short name in menus.
