Wish List Forum > Permissions for external contractors (DONE)
Adam,
Looks like the last update here was back in August. Can you share the latest with me? Is there a white paper or functional spec document that describes what LP might be thinking? We are only using LP internally but even still we'd like to limit the types of things folks can do. For example, we don't want just anyone to create clients or re-prioritize projects/tasks. Any information you can provide is appreciated relative to both availability and functionality.

Hi Jim,
We are working out some of the details now. I will see if we can forward on some mockups and specs. Our initial goal is going to probably be addressing visibility (ie: who is allowed to see various projects and clients). Later efforts will probably focus around whether various people are allowed to do various things (ie: re-prioritize tasks, etc).

Is there any further update on this?
I've got 5 people accessing LP on a daily basis and 4 of them are external to my business - which worries the crap out of me as they have full control over every piece of LP.

Access Controls will ship in the next release which I estimate as somewhere in the back half of April '10.
You will be able to set your 4 external people to restricted members and control which projects they can see.

I have a number of contractors also who I think I'd like to enter data in the Portal only. Can they enter time on tasks there?
Bryan deSilva
Portal Guests can not track time. When Access Controls ships, you will be able to add your contractors to your workspace as Restricted Members and give them access to just the projects they are working on. As members (vs. Guests) they will have access to the time sheet and other features just like full members but only with in their project access permissions.
Access Controls is in final testing now and should ship in less than 30 days.

The new Access Controls feature set has shipped; see Help Guide and latest blog post for details.

I am impressed by liquid planner and planned to purchase it and use it for my company until I found out that I can’d set permissions to our contractors. We don’t want them to have access to all info about the project, just their tasks, their projects, their files and their timesheets. They definitely can’t be allowed to change anything except posting notes, send messages and loging in their hours.
Are you going to implement these anytime soon?

Access Controls are one of the things we are planning on tackling shortly. Until then, you might look at project portals . They are really more geared towards sharing work with clients, but you may find them acceptable for sharing work with contractors.
