How does one change the start date for a project? I imported a MS Project file today, but project started last week (3/17). LP seems to be basing project start and therefore the viability of completing this weeks tasks based upon today’s date.

We currently don’t have a notion of “start date” in LiquidPlanner. The easiest way to do this is to edit your work items to update the remaining days for each task to reflect the current values.

The idea behind this is that while project needs to know what the start date was so it can take its static data schedule it out (like in a Gantt chart), LiquidPlanner is designed to be used by the entire team to communicate status and progress with each other. By having your team update what work has been done and how much remains you get a “living schedule” that reflects current reality rather than a snapshot of a moment in time.

Does this mean that there is no way to enter historical information?? We’re in the middle of some projects and we want to add the work that has already been completed for reporting purposes.

At present, we don’t support importing of historical tasks, just forward looking work. It makes sense to do so, so I’ve created a request for our engineering team to add support for this.

That sounds good for the historical import.

What about also having an “already started date” for new projects/tasks? This would be useful for new users who have projects that are mid-stream and for scenarios where somebody started working on a new project/task and forgot to enter it into the system.

This makes good sense. We need to step back and think about more deeply about the use cases for importing in-flight projects. Anyone who has ideas, requirements, or suggestions feel free to add them to this thread and we’ll consider them as we improve this area.

Thanks much,
Charles.

I think liquidplanner looks like a promising tool with a great premise, but we work on long-term projects here, and its a show stopper not being able to display when a task actually started or enter any historical info … Please send me an email if this ever gets resolved … thank you
