Liquid planner looks like it would be great for my company, but due to our unreliable and slow internet connection we’d strongly prefer a product we can deploy on our own, in-house servers. Is there any plan for such an offering, or is LiquidPlanner strictly SaaS?

Thanks,

Yes! We are planning to offer a version of LiquidPlanner that organizations could download. We don’t, however, have any estimate (yet) of when this will be available.

Perhaps in the meantime you can work on finding ways to speed up your internet connection? ;)

While I am a fan of SaaS there are many more reasons for local install than bandwidth alone. Common issues in the Enterprise are Privacy & Security Policy, Import/Export restrictions, Government/Military Security classifications and systems integrations. All nasty but all can be solved with local installs.

Surely you are using LP have an estimate in your plan for this item even if it 0 to 5 years :)

Ha ha – fair enough… three to eighteen months. Or so. :)

I’m also going to have to wait for a localized client, it’s just too tedious to have to wait for the loading times for every new modification.. I’m on a 144k/144k ISDN connection, for what it’s worth.

What about the option of deploying LP over Amazon EC2 and giving customers the (higher priced) option of having a dedicated server. You guys still control it but the performance can be quickly upgraded depending on the size of the customer.

That’s something we’ll look into at some point. 144K is a pretty slow connection. We’ll be looking at performance from multiple angles.

I’m wondering if changes from users could actually just be queued and then submitted/saved all at once to avoid the individual delays. Obviously that’s a major modification to the core mechanics of the application, but it would reduce lag stresses.

@ aaron: This is definitely something we’re looking at as we consider how we can optimize performance of LiquidPlanner. Improvements are ongoing, so you should notice things just keep getting better and faster.
