Dependencies

Maybe its so obvious I didnt see it – but how do you setup dependencies between tasts? thanks |

@sraschke – You didn’t miss it; it’s in final software testing now and will be on the wire in about 2-3 weeks. Note that all tasks assigned to any given person are implicitly dependant and will flow out based on the order in the projects view (this means it’s impossible to overload anyone). Things at the top of the list get scheduled before things at the bottom. Also, note that uncertainty inherits down in a chain of dependant tasks (just like in real life). Think of it this way, if your first task has a lot of uncertainty in it’s exit date, the exit date of your next task will be at least as uncertian. Independant tasks work the opposite, they tend to reduce your uncertainty. In simple terms, some will be late, some early but the more tasks you have the more they tend to narrow the uncertianty. Independant tasks also tend to push the expected date out. The simple way to think of this is that if you had 10 tasks each 1 day long, do you really expect them all to be done in one day? Not really, one is sure to be late. Even when you estimate in reasonable ranges (80% confidence), there is a still a probability that things can fall outside the range and our schedule engine takes that into account. Hope you enjoy LP, let us know if you have troubles. |

In having make the functionality work. I have checked that they are not the same owners etc, however the second task keep being scheduled to be completed before the first task is completed. Any suggestion on where I’m going wrong |

(discussing task-to-task dependencies, which have shipped now) @peter – I think you are running in to a scheduling case that we have solved and will be hotfixing this week (ETA 6/21). |
