If a workitem is entered on 2/6 with a promise date of 3/4 and a duration of .15 days, the 50% estimate date returned is 3/16 even though the assigned individual has not other workitem or project assigned to him. Why is this?

Promise dates do not effect scheduling, they act as a marker. If the expected date runs out past the promise date, then workitem will be flagged. It’s a tool for managing your expectations.

Now as to the strange dates:
  • If the workitem had been assigned to someone else first, the scheduler could have still been running. It takes a few seconds in the background to update all the schedules when you make a change (an alert shows up near the top of the screen). If that was the case, you might have just been seeing some old values while the data was being rescheduled.
  • Another possibility is that the person had a really low availability set (you can see that in the members tab from the dashboard or by click on people icon at the top of the screen).

Barring those two situations, I can’t really guess what the situation was, however if you would like I could look at your space and try to help you figure it out.
