User Forum > How do you change start date?

I have a 30 day aggregated task that began back on Jan 15. However, it's now Feb 20. And I entered this parent task on Feb 20.

Unfortunately, LP begins the start date of the task on Feb 20.

How do I force the start date to begin on Jan 15th (which is when it began)?

I basically jumped into this project mid-stream. So, I have to enter certain parent tasks that are in the middle of being completed.

Estimates in LP always represent remaining effort therefore tasks will be scheduled from today or later depending on priority order, availability, and dependencies. Note, that LP always calculates starts and finishes for you. You can delay a start or build dependencies to reflect real-world constraints. Other than that, LP is always trying to resource-level your plan.

In a future release we will support the ability to set a historical actual start but you can not do it as of this post. Our current recommendation is to keep copy of your current plan for review purposes and switch to LP with a "from this point forward" perspective.

Sometimes "projects" get going at some level before the planning is finished. Being able to post date the start date will be an often-used scenario for us. Please let us know when this gets into the DEV queue.

I second (third?) the request for this feature. It would also be helpful when planning project timelines for proposals.

Hi Linda,
If you want to adjust when something will start in the future, you can set a "delay until" for a task or a container. This will make sure it starts no earlier than that date.
