Exporting data from Microsoft Project

To import data into LiquidPlanner you first have to create a CSV file. Excel or Project files can be used as source documents.

To export from Project, follow the instructions here:

1. Open the file you want to export and click “Tools” and then “Options.”

2. Select the “Security” tab.

3. Under Legacy Formats, select the “Allow loading files with legacy or non default file formats” (pictured below).

Now that that’s out of the way…

4. Click “File” and “Save As”.

5. In the “Save as type” field, select “CSV (Comma delimited)” (pictured below) and click “Save.”

6. The Export Wizard will appear. When asked whether to use a new or existing map, choose “Use existing map.” On the next screen, select “Task list with embedded assignment rows.” Finally, choose a comma as your text delimiter.

7. If you are using MS Project 2003, click “Finish” and you’re in business! If you are using MS Project 2007, click next and add “Type” and “WBS” to the columns Microsoft Project will export. Click “Next”, you can save these settings so that you don’t need to type them in again, or just click “Finish”.
