LiquidPlanner allows you to import data from Excel or Project via .csv format, which means you don’t have to start from scratch after you’ve already created a file. In addition to importing tasks and task descriptions, you can also import owner names, task durations, expected work, and more.

Creating a .csv file

To create a .csv file, select [Save As…] and then [Other Formats].

Select [CSV (comma delimited)] and click save.

Now you're ready to import this data into LiquidPlanner

Importing data

Start in either Plan > Organize, or Plan > Prioritize

In LiquidPlanner, you'll have one set of tasks, but two different views that group those tasks in different structures.  One view is the Plan > Organize view, where your tasks are grouped by Clients, Projects & Folders.  The other view is the Plan > Prioritize view, where your tasks are grouped by prioritized tasklists.

The import process can build only one of those structures for you.  To indicate which one you'd like the import to build, simply navigate first to the desired view, either Plan > Organize, or Plan > Prioritize.

Go to add > import existing data.

Choose the file you want to import. Supported file types are comma separated values (csv) as well as tab delineated text (txt). Make sure the imported files have good column headings, as LiquidPlanner will recognize these, which helps to organize your data.

Follow the steps and click Next.

In the preview section, map the name of your column headings (file column) to the LiquidPlanner column where you want that data to appear.

Map task owners, then Preview your import.   If you make any changes, click 'update preview' to preview the data with the new format.

Once you’re satisfied, click 'start import'.

Your imported data will be identified with the name Import followed by the current date and time.  The workspace is now yours to further organize as you wish, for a lot less time than creating it from scratch!

One of the first things you'll want to do is manually build whichever structure didn't get created for you upon import - either the tasklist structure in the Prioritize view, or the client/project/folder structure in the Organize view.
