Duplicating plan items
You can duplicate plan items in LiquidPlanner in order to save time creating new items. Simply select the item(s) in question, then right-click > duplicate, or edit > duplicate.
When you duplicate an item, a minimum set of data is automatically copied to the new item. Depending on the type of item you are duplicating, that may include: name, owner, description, estimates, delays, dependencies, shared portal status or client association.
By checking the appropriate boxes, you can also choose to copy associated notes, documents, links, comments and restricted member access.
Duplicating an entire project
Duplicating an existing project is a great way to get a fast start on a new project that includes the same tasks. Note that the duplicate process is filter aware; it will not duplicate anything that is filtered out at the time you duplicate.
- In the Projects view, highlight the blue project folder, then right click > duplicate. This will give you a copy of the project folder, all sub-folders and all tasks.
- Note that if any of the tasks in the original project had been packaged, the packaged status does not carry over to the copy.
- Rename the new Project via the project edit pane.
- If your original project was associated to a client, the new copy will be associated to that same client as well. You can open the new project's edit pane to change or clear the client association for your new project.
Project templates
To create a project template, simply create a project with as much detail as you'll want to duplicate, then put it on hold to keep it from affecting the schedules of your current projects. When you need a new project, just duplicate your template and take it off hold.
You might also want to use virtual members that represent roles and assign the template tasks to them when you don't know ahead of time who will perform the task, for example "TBD-designer, TBD-production".
