Using Activity Codes for Billing

When time is tracked on tasks, each time entry is associated to an activity code.  The workspace owner can define a set of activity codes via settings > data cusomization > activities:

Let's look at an example of using activity codes to facilitate billing.  On the activities page page I have added a new activity code called “Print Marketing”:

Next, in the project plan I multi-select tasks that I want to associate with this activity code.  After I select them, I click Edit > Edit Item to open the Edit Pane.  Here I can assign the same activity code to all of the tasks at once:

If you don't happen to preset the activity code for tasks in bulk as indicated above, it can be set instead the first time that time is logged to each task.  It just needs to be set once for each task, then all subsequent time logged to that same task will default to that same activity code.

When working with activity codes, you might like to expose that column in the plan for easy reference:

Again, when you log time to any of these tasks, the time entry will be associated to the Print Marketing activity.  All this encoding flows out through timesheet exports:

Ratesheets can be step up to include costs with the timesheet export.  Here is an example LP Ratesheet; it has a standard rate for Print Marketing and override Print Marketing rate for Mary:
