Meet LiquidPlanner 4

We've introduced 50+ improvements to make LiquidPlanner 4 faster and easier to use.

According to a recent study, most team members are using LP every single day to manage, track, and collaborate on the important work they’re doing. And it’s often those “every day” interactions that can make — or break — your experience with any product. That’s why we went back to basics in this release, with a singular focus on making LP simpler.

You may have already gotten a taste of the improvements in our 4.1 release, which included a refresh of the “My Work” view. LiquidPlanner 4.2 has extended those improvements to the “Projects” page, and expand on them with navigation, favorites, and filtering improvements. Please read on to learn more about our latest release.

What’s New in LP4?

Say hello to single page editing.

Say goodbye to the old detail pane. With LP 4.2, you’ve now got a full-screen way to interact with your project and task information. Quick links (with item counts) at the top jump you down to comments, documents, notes, analysis and more without switching views. Inline editing and instant saves cut down the clicks and wait time for your most common updates.

Introducing the My Work tab.

Redesigned from the ‘My Tasks’ page, the new section introduced in LP 4.1 allows all team members to view and edit all of their prioritized tasks without needing to navigate through different sections of the application. Any team member can log progress, access important task details and history, and create new items with ramp up time.

The Projects tab, redesigned.

Pixels are precious. In LP4, the header has been streamlined to save you valuable screen real estate and to simplify views and menus. “Favorites” allow you to configure and save your optimal view. The Inbox facilitates smoother workflow, by serving as a dedicated place to capture new tasks and issues before scheduling.

“I admire the way you improve your product every time. I love the way you are focusing on interaction, usability and interface.”

LiquidPlanner 4.2 FAQ

Q: The new Edit Panel looks the same on the “Projects” tab as it does on the “My Work” tab – is it really the exact same thing?
A: Yes!

Q: How do you open and close the new Edit Panel?
A: To open: use the ‘Enter’ key, double-click, add a new plan item, or follow a link from another part of application. To close: use the ‘Esc’ key or click the “X” in the upper right corner. You may wish to keep the edit panel open all the time, but you’ll want to do some column customization and re-sizing to optimize the real estate on your screen.

Q: How do I get back out of full screen mode?
A: Use the ‘Esc’ key or click the double arrow, on the upper left side of the screen, to return to the projects view.

Q: How do I change my views without the View Gallery toolbar?
A: Details, Comments, Files and Analytics for each item are found within the new edit panel. Shortcuts were replaced by the new Favorites feature, and the Trash was moved to the Projects page header. The Sheet view was retired.

Q: What happened to the “Add Links” button from the Details view?
A: You now add links in the ‘Documents’ section of the Edit Panel.

Q: I use a particular combination of filters frequently – how do I save this view so that I don’t have to pick them over and over again?
A: You can customize the exact view that you like, and save it to “Favorites” (Star button).

Q: The Edit Panel is too small when I’m on my laptop, how can I make it bigger?
A: Click the printer icon to see a full screen printable view of the edit panel. Alternately, you can use the keyboard shortcut ‘Ctrl-Shift-F’. You can edit while in full screen view. The full-screen view is also printable.

Q: Why do my tasks turn gray when I edit them?
A: Tasks that are grayed out have recent changes made to them. You can refresh the list of projects/tasks with the new curved arrow icon in the grid header (next to the gear icon, which is used for customizing columns).

Q: Where do I get the email address for a plan item now?
A: Use the “Share” (globe menu) or right click the plan item. On this menu you will also find options to copy or send a link as well.

Q: What happened to the filter toolbar?
A: While the old filter toolbar itself gone, you’ll see that the quick “Filter to my items” icon is still there. The remainder of the filter buttons are consolidated under the new Filter icon.

Q: Did anything change on the “My Work” tab since the 4.1 release?
A: Yes, there’s a new Personal Status Report. You can use it to get a date-filtered list of tasks for any person in your workspace.

Q: Did anything change in “Analytics”?
A: Not this time.

Q: Did anything change on the “People” tab?
A: Yes! Owners, co-owners and managers can download the members table into a .csv file.
