Just getting to know LiquidPlanner?

Video Transcript

Welcome to LiquidPlanner! You probably just created your account and you’re waiting for your activation email. Keep an eye out for it in your inbox. If it doesn’t show up, check your junk folder, sometimes it gets hung up there. The first thing you’ll be doing is connecting with a workspace. A workspace is where teams store all their project information. You may be connecting with LiquidPlanner in one of several roles. You may be the workspace owner, in which case you’re also the administrator of the workspace. You may be a workspace member, and you’ll have access to most of the same tools that the workspace owner does. You may also be accessing as a portal guest, in which case you will have a simplified experience that focuses in on just one project at a time. No matter what your role, you’ll benefit from seeing a quick tour of LiquidPlanner.

I’m in our example workspace now, it’s called Game FX. It’s about a fictitious gaming company, and you’ll see it in more of our videos. I’ll use this workspace to give you a quick introduction. You may be a part of multiple workspaces or multiple portals. The way you navigate between them is to click on the name. This takes you to the directory, where I can see multiple workspaces and within each workspace, a set of open project portals. Back on the homepage, I see a summary of my tasks status, my progress for the week, upcoming tasks, and in the center I see our workspace Comment Stream. These comments are in various items, projects, tasks, and I can drill into the plan, but we’ll see that later.

The next section is Projects. The Projects section provides access to all the projects in your workspace. LiquidPlanner has a very desktop feel. Most of the things on the screen can be interacted with. For instance, the outline can be expanded and collapsed. There are right-click menus and there’s a selection and you can double-click to edit. In certain places, you can drag and drop as well. You can even do multiple selections by holding down the shift key or the control key. For instance, I might want to right-click and reassign. Many of the controls in LiquidPlanner allow you to search and easily find different people or projects. Right now I’m looking at the schedule view and these are the schedule bars. To learn more of this, watch the next video on scheduling.

Up at the top, we’ll see the view gallery. Each of these views helps you do something different in LiquidPlanner. If your window is small, you can drop down the gallery and see all the views. This is customizable and you can add your own shortcuts. The four big buttons on the left are your command menus. For instance, the Add menu is how you add things to the plan.

The next section is My Tasks. Here you can see task name, client (if you’re using clients), and the project that this task is associated with. If you click on the task, you can edit it right here. This is useful for tracking your progress or updating estimates. You can even comment right here. One of the cool things about this view is you can look other peoples tasks as well, so I look at Alex, and he has a completely different set. You can also view this as a calendar.

The next section is your Timesheet. This is where you would track time spent on different projects and tasks. The next section is the Workspace. Here you have access to the administrative functions, like the member list, where you can go and add new people or virtual members. A virtual member is handy for modeling people you haven’t hired yet or just evaluating a workspace on a trial basis. Workspace is also where you would go to control member access and control portals.

Probably the most important thing to know is where to find help. No matter where you are in LiquidPlanner, up in the upper right corner is a help link. This will take you to our Help and Support Center where you will find many answers.
