What is Resource Workload?

Resource Workload is a report that shows what teams or individuals are working on, when they’re working on it, and how much work they have over time — helping managers load balance and allocate resources where they’re needed most.

Benefits

Functional managers can quickly see what their team is working on across all projects, allowing them to understand capacity and fulfill resource requests. Project managers gain visibility into cross-project assignments and are able to isolate and understand root causes for resourcing conflicts. These insights help facilitate effective, informed conversations between functional and project managers so that new work can get underway and resourcing issues can be resolved.

Resource Workload

Interface

For each team or resource, you’ll see a visual representation of their workload over a specified number of days into the future. Expanding the resource will reveal what work they have across the entire workspace, when they will be finished with that work, and if they have any free time in their schedule. Columns within the report can be customized to reveal the data that’s important to you.

Access

The Resource Workload report is included in all Enterprise subscription plans. Customers with a paid Professional subscription as of July 9th, 2016 will have Resource Workload enabled free of charge. All members within those workspaces will find the Resource Workload report on the People tab.

What’s new on the Projects Tab?

The following updates will be rolled out to all customers on July 9th.

Project Workload Report

The existing Workload report has been re-designed to bring some of the new functionality of the Resource Workload report into the Projects tab. The updated Project Workload report shows you all of the people that are working on an initiative or project over a specific timeframe. The report can be run for any plan item, but is most useful for a single container or set of projects by multi-selecting those items.

Projects Tab Navigation

You’ll also see some updates to the Projects tab that make it easier to utilize the updated Project Workload report, along with the other status and trend reports.

A Reports menu has been added to the top navigation bar so that reports are readily accessible when you need deeper insight into your projects. All existing adding, editing, and viewing functions have been moved into a new left-hand navigation.

What else is changing?

The following updates will be rolled out to all customers on July 9th.

Hours Available and Total Availability

Understanding hourly calculations in LiquidPlanner is important for resourcing, so a couple of columns have been renamed to make them more clear.

Hrs Unscheduled is now Hrs Available – this calculation tells you the excess hours that a resource has within a given date range to take on additional work.

Hrs Available is now Total Availability – this is the number of working hours that a resource has within a given date range, according to their profile Availability setting.

Browser Support

Starting on July 9th, Internet Explorer 9 will no longer be supported. Users who are accessing LiquidPlanner via IE 9 have been shown an in-application alert message to upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer or use a different browser.
